biography
I studied art history, studio art and aesthetics at the University of California. I was introduced to photography at Santa Cruz where I studied under Ken Ruth. there I practiced the zone system while looking at Diane Arbus, Gary Winogrand and Robert Frank. these contradictory approaches were vexing enough, but when I foresaw that my art education was leading to a career in a one hour photo lab!?! I quit and became a chinese chef.
since then I have sold cameras (Olden Camera), bartended, kayaked, sold, surfed, videoed and traveled. I have worked in underwater and sports video, Web and print.
I am currently working on a several photographic series; inspired by Sean Scully, Nickolas Nixon, Frank Stella, Barnett Newman and Jackson Pollock. Other influences include Ansel Adams, Andreas Gursky and Harry Callahan. I recently discovered Huger Foote and recommend looking at his work.
my work has been shown in the washington dc area to a warm reception. without solicitation, several collectors and a regional art commission have approached me to purchase images. with this encouragement, I am preparing to submit this body of work for consideration in several upcoming juried shows.
I am currently seeking gallery representation in the northeast.
